The GRID 2: Blueprint for a New Computing Infrastructure, eds. Foster & Kesselman - This book contains a number of articles on the feasibility and usefulness of what the authors call computational grids. The chapters, written by different people and differing in technical content, are, overall, quite approachable and make a good argument for what an advanced computing environment could look like in several years.
